Support for hard-hit individuals and businesses in our sector.

17 August 2020

As you’ll know by now, thanks to your orders, DART are donating to four charities that can help those in our sector who are going through hard times. Today we’re introducing you to charity number three: the Rainy Day Trust (RDT).

This is the only charity which exists solely to help people who have worked in the UK’s home improvement and enhancement industry. They help in whatever way they can.

When you spend with DART, between July 20th and September 11th, we’ll donate up to £20 to whichever of the four charities you ask us to. Our aim is to help those hard hit by family, health and external circumstances.

Which charity will you choose?

The Rainy Day Trust

What does The Rainy Day Trust do?

An accident, problems with your health, or financial problems can all take a toll on your quality of life and place a burden on you and your family. The Rainy Day Trust is here to help. Working alone and in partnership with other organisations, they provide financial and other assistance to those in our sector who are struggling. They also support companies that are looking to help members of their workforce.

Growing from its foundations as the Ironmongery and Hardware Trades Benevolent Society in 1843, the Rainy Day Trust now provides support to a modern workforce. Every year they help countless people through a variety of situations; people who work, or have worked, within the home improvement and enhancement industry and have fallen on hard times. Their aim is to reach a time when all those who have worked in the industry have the funds they need to live.

Support for individuals

The Trust exists because ‘you can’t always do it yourself’. They can help you get through difficult situations – financial or otherwise. And they urge you not to suffer in silence, but to get in touch today. So, if you’re struggling and have worked for a company involved in the home improvement or enhancement industry for one year, give them a call today.

Support your workforce

They also recognise that busy HR professionals and staff managers are often juggling hundreds of calls on their time every day. So if there’s a staff member or colleague struggling to make ends meet and in need of support, a call to RDT could help. Perhaps an employee has a child with a diagnosed condition and needs support; there are 167,000 UK charities you could call to find the right one — or you could call RDT and they can find it for you.

Help for businesses as they emerge from Covid-19

As the dedicated industry charity, RDT has continued to work tirelessly during lockdown and have adapted their services to cope with the ever-changing landscape. Their Covid-19 Support programme has been called on again and again. It offers financial help, debt advice, legal advice, benefits advice and emotional support, as well as extra training.

Also, if you or your company are thinking about a re-structure or job losses, RDT ask that you engage with them right from the start. They bring a very different outlook to the table that can be immensely helpful to businesses — and they will treat any information with the utmost confidentiality.  It’s not just the people losing their job that businesses need to think about. Keep in mind what those staying behind will be thinking. If they can see that you genuinely care about your staff, and are helping in all sorts of ways, they are far more likely to feel a sense of security and loyalty to the company.

It's not just big companies that RDT can help. Tradesmen such as plumbers, carpenters and roofers, etc. also qualify for help too, so don't hold back. Please ask them for help if you need it.

Don’t let people suffer in silence; the Rainy Day Trust helps individuals and businesses in our sector get through difficult situations. But they rely on donations to do so. If you’d like us to donate to the Trust on your behalf, let us know when you place your order.
